Ive heard a lot of negative comments about Rover and whilst I agree that some models had some potentially serious shortfalls I have to say that, despite the head gasket issues that the K-Series Engine had, the Rover 45 overall is a fantastic little car. I have a 1.8l Impression, its around 2002 model (or thereabouts) and aside from needing a clean inside and out has been kept in extremely good condition. Other than a few areas where the paintwork is dulled or has light scuff marks the only body damage is a slight dent (judging by height and type of dent it likely took a hit from a shopping trolley) on the passenger side of the boot. A Solid body and chassis, everything works, no glitches or "iffy" connections. Alloys and tyres in great condition... There are of course a couple of things that need attention but for someone with a bit of time etc. its well worth the effort. Front Disks and pads - driver side has been done, passenger side parts are in the boot. Possibly some bushes to be replaced as well but thats pretty much standard and expected with most used cars (unless one spends thousands through a dealership). The biggest job is the one most people will lose interest over - the head gasket. Be assured though that there's no reason for concern, the Car starts, runs smoothly and by all indications has suffered no damage . The problem is that the fluids do mix and when mixing reaches a certain point the engine loses power and starts to overheat. The first sign of this was met with an immediate fluid drain, flush, filter and plug replacement as well as fluid replacement with treatment. The car ran short distances ( > 10 miles daily) with No issues at all for 2 months after that and then taken off the road as was no longer needed. Whilst it will start the car has stood idle for a while so I wouldnt risk driving it until the gasket job has been done ... but once it, and the other minor work, has been done this will be a very solid and reliable car for no more than a bit of effort and negligable cost. Ok, so Im going on a bit so last thing : Im moving home and cant take 3 cars with me. I havent the time nor the workspace to take the task on myself but please be well assured that were circumstances different I would most definitely keep and repair her. The sad fact though is that I cant but Im not prepared to send her to scrap, she is too good for that. If interested Im happy to answer any questions I can so please get in contact. Im asking for a "token" £200 for the car, a true bargain. Oh yes - the engine is one of the ones produced after BMW had bought the brand over, markings on the engine confirm that too. Probably why the engine didnt fail when the gasket did. I'll add pics later - too dark outside right now but will snap and upload a few shots tomorrow ...
