All the details

Cambridge Futons is a specialist futon manufacturer and retailer. Their aim is to manufacture and provide un-rivalled high quality futon sofa beds, futon mattresses and natural bed mattresses, with beautiful designs and a wide range of futon frames. They focus on high quality are the manufacturer of fire-retardant chemical-free futon mattresses and natural bed mattresses, using organic cotton and pure wool. I bought this futon bed mattress (intended for a bed, rather than for a sofa) a few years ago but it was only used for one person on their own, and only for one year. It's a standard 4'6" bed size. The distinctive Cocoloc mattress contains 4 luxurious layers of the white cotton rich felt, but in order to adjust the support level they have added a layer of coir fibre. Coir is a coarse, short fibre extracted from the outer shell of coconuts. This is bound together with natural latex. It is a healthy alternative to rubber or foam and its ideal for people of heavier proportions or for those who just like a firmer durable and comfortable mattress. The white cotton-rich felt filling is a mixture of cotton and pure polyester. This keeps the cotton fibre from tangling and knotting and it increases loft thickness, allowing more air to pass through the fibres. It reduces dust and helps body moisture evaporation. It also stops the cotton layers from pulling or breaking apart. The Cocoloc mattress is approximately 6” or 15cm deep. Whilst intended to be for a double bed, it works perfectly as a futon sofa bed mattress - I tried it on one to see if it would work and it did. (I don't have the futon sofa bed any more.) I chose the Kingfisher Cotton Drill fabric to have it covered in. There's a zip nearly all the way round, protected by a placket. I paid £370 for this mattress. Since being used, it's been stored under a spare king-sized bed out of the way. I can see one small, very light mark on it, about the size of a 50p. To answer some questions I've been sent: The mattress was stored initially on top of another mattress on the bed in the spare room, with bed linen over the top to make it look like a made bed. Then it was stored under the bed, now it's back on top of the bed, on top of the duvet etc in the spare room. The cover can't be washed because the buttons go right through the cover and the mattress. I don't think it would be a good idea to remove the buttons to try to remove the cover, but I suppose if you were brave you might give it a try..... It was only ever used with a padded, fitted mattress protector, incidentally, so didn't come into contact with a person at any time!
