All the details

This is a very old Halfords folding bike from the '70s. It has approx 22inch wheels and a Sturmey-Archer 3-speed and a rear rack. As it is old, the bottom bracket ( the point on the frame where the pedals turn) needs replacing. Would suit someone who doesnt mind giving it a bit of TLC to breathe some new life into. I am getting rid of cuz I need to slim down the number of bikes in my limited home space. Just to let you know, the bike (when you have added a saddle and nicer pedals) is currently rideable but the bottom bracket area (where the pedal cranks pass through the frame) needs some degree of bike mechanicking ability to make it better; The thread on the inside of the actual frame is totally worn out and so the mechanism which passes through the bottom bracket is held on with a few spots of weld. (I was in the middle riding the South Downs Way when it gave up and had to do what I could at the time). The ride now is a little wobbly. It functions, but would be irritating over any distance. HOWEVER! I met a guy who runs a community bike recycling project (in Leeds unfortunately) who told me that the thing to do would be to grind off the weld, take the bottom bracket mechanism out and replace it with a cartridge mechanism. So, it's do-able but might cost you for the cartidge. I usually get bike spares from bike recycling projects cuz A) they will likely cost almost nothing and B) tjese are the places most likely to have old-fashioned kit and spares. Also please note that I may very well put a slightly slightly different set of handle bars on the bike. If you have any questions or problems with the build I can also offer a degree of guidance: bear in mind that the majority of bike shops (particularly sporty bike shops) tend to be very snobby about bikes and you can often expect them to be quite unhelpful when it comes to old bikes. Not always, but often. If you are still interested, do let me know. Rich 07421083292

Are you going to write a book about your adventures on the bike?

Well last year I finished cycling from Krygyzstan to Hoek of Holland but on a different bike. I wrote about that. I can point you towards that: richard-terry.travel.blog I cycled the length of japan too. It was two and a half years away... some travels by bus/train too. I wrote a more updated properly editted version too which i can email to you for free...
